Door finger guard for push side of a standard door

Fingersafe® offers no resistance or restriction to the operation and allows 180 degrees of operation.

It protects the full length of the door.

The Fingersafe® MK1A is a flexible, concertina® shaped fitting, designed to actually eject fingers from being trapped or crushed in the “push” side of doors.

When the door is closed the fitting is compressed but when the door is opened the fitting extends and provides a protective covering over the hinged space.

The concertina® piece lies flat against the frame when the door is closed for an aesthetically pleasing design. The Fingersafe® MK1A units are installed by a fixing strip which allows easy access to the hinge for maintenance.

The Fingersafe® MK1A is designed for interior and exterior use, it particularly suitable for use in schools, nurseries, healthcare centres, homes for the elderly or infirm as well as residential use. It is commercially specified for restaurants, fast food outlets as well as government and military buildings.

A two year warranty is offered on fair wear and tear, supply only. Samples may be supplied on request.

With thousands of reported incidents of amputated, mutilated or damaged fingers in doors per year, Fingersafe is designed specifically to prevent fingers from being damaged in the hinged part of the door.

Besides the cost in trauma, treatment and disability the owner/manager of the facility could be held responsible and incur litigation for personal injury.

Having identified a need in the market Fingersafe was developed as the original finger pinch protector guard for door hinges.

Advice when looking for finger protector strips for doors:

  • Prevention of fingers being squashed in door hinges is certainly better than the possible long recovery needed following a finger or hand entrapment.
  • All our products as standard are designed for high traffic areas. Our guards are the simple, safe solution to eliminate finger injuries. There is not any one door that is a bigger risk than another.  When purchasing door finger protection, please bear in mind that doors by design are different, therefore you need to fit the correct door finger pinch guard that is designed purposely for your particular door type.
  • We are often asked if our products can be stuck to door and frame? Our answer is always ‘No’ as adhesive strips cause damage to existing door and frames and are not durable for application. Doors are in constant use and door guards need to be firmly fixed to ensure they do not fail which is why Fingersafe® door hinge guards include self drilling screws for installation.
  • There is NOT a one fits all finger guard that will not work, for instance a finger guard designed for a standard everyday door could not possibly fit a UPVC door or a pivot door, the gaps and functionality are not the same.
  • Search by door type to eliminate the confusion currently in the market place.
  • At Fingersafe® we still consider plastic to be the safest option to protect fingers and hands from hinge injuries. Aluminium is a very harsh metal when used as the central module of the hinge cavity. When combined with a material it is not a good choice as it could cause potential injuries.
  • With our expertise in this industry for over two decades maybe we would of manufactured alternative door finger protection by now if we considered it to be completely safe to do so.
  • Nursery and pre-school owners are advised to check their insurance companies policy in regards to installation of finger guards and door hinge safety.
  • Prevention of door finger hinge accidents could not be easier. Buy door hinge protection.

Fit Fingersafe® concertinas®  for safeguarding against personal injuries in door hinges”

Simple door hinge risk assessment:

To gain a greater understanding of the power forced onto hands and fingers by a closing door hinge,  simply take a pencil at arms length and carefully put the tip into the middle of the hinge gap of the door, then pull the door shut quickly. The impact is astonishing !

This method of demonstrating the hazard of door hinge gaps was firstly adopted by the founder of Fingersafe Group as a simple way of visually showcasing the extreme force inflicted on fingers.

Be Fingersafe !

“Since 1992 Fingersafe®  has been closing the door on Finger injuries.”

We have used Fingersafe for several projects over the years in respect of doors and other areas of our premises which has contributed greatly to making it a safe environment for children attending. Their products are excellent and are installed by their professional and friendly staff. The advice they have given us has proved invaluable. I have recommended them to numerous similar venues to ours throughout the U.K. They are a thoroughly professional and caring company who take pride in their innovative products and always go that ‘extra mile’ to satisfy customer needs and requests. We cannot recommend them highly enough !

Fingersafe is the product to use! It genuinely offers safety and peace of mind where little fingers are concerned.
I recently installed one of these units in a Student’s Hall of Residence with doors opening and closing around 500 times per day, so they are definitely for heavy duty purposes. I am always recommending the MK1A whenever I get called out on jobs installing locks.
Whenever I see these installed in Schools and other places, you can tell that they treat their children with care in protecting their little hands from harm.
I have been installing these units for quite a few years, so feel confident that they are always of top quality.

  4. Michelle Robbins

My daughter had started crawling and poking little fingers everywhere she could; there was just enough gap on the door frame for her small fingers to get trapped and if someone then closed the door even a little bit I hate to think what would have happened; we now have these on every door that she can get to and since they were installed no little fingers have been anywhere near the hinges.

As an added bonus now that she is learning to walk these guards also act as protection from door frames when she falls over in her rush to walk around.

The safety of the children who attend the pre-school that meets on our church premises is important to us so we have fitted fingersafe strips on the doors. This gives us assurance that nasty injuries won’t occur.

I first saw the Fingersafe door guard at my son’s specialist school in the office after he stuck his finger in the bathroom door at home and broke it. In a panic being told there was a 4-5 hour wait for an ambulance I went straight to school where he was bandaged up properly but advised to go hospital. My 7 year old attends a SEMH provision and has autism and no sense of danger. The fact his school has these guards I knew who to call after we returned from hospital. I only wish I had bought them sooner. I made 1 phone call and sent some snaps in and now my house is Fingersafe protected on every door including 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room and the garden door. Whatever the door Fingersafe have the right guard for you. The service I had from my initial telephone was reassuring and incredible. This company took away all my worries and concerns and genuinely felt my pain. I couldn’t recommend Fingersafe highly enough. Personally, these guards should be in every home whether you have a SEN child or not. Until my son broke his finger, I never knew how unsafe my doors were. Delivery was next day. I have included some pics of the products too. Thank you to Gina and Sue. Fingersafe went above and beyond to prevent future accidents.
