21 Aug Is my door suitable for Fingersafe guards?
At last count, there were some 30,000 reported incidents of amputated, mutilated or damaged fingers per year, with children aged 4 years or younger and men over the age of 55 most at risk. Here at Fingersafe, we are well known and much loved for providing door finger protection that delivers. We’ve been doing just that since 1992 with our initial concept revolutionising safety procedures across a range of settings around the world.
The Fingersafe product has continued to go from strength to strength, evolving with the times, and with various door models and designs in mind, to keep protecting fingers from injury. So, is your door a suitable candidate for Fingersafe guard fitting?
Hinge opening sides
If you have a standard door frame and need door finger protection guards for the push side, we can certainly help. Our MK1A is the perfect design for the hinge opening side of your door providing a unique, inconspicuous and easy to fit option that stops fingers from becoming trapped rather simply.
This door guard covers the hinge to block access to the essential pieces of ironmongery within. It’s installed using screws, rather than glue, for a secure fit and infallible protection.
We are firm believers that finger protectors should be mandatory in every environment, whether that’s at school, work or home. In fact, this mission was the inspiration behind the development of MK1A, which is our main and bestselling product. As an effective safety device to protect fingers from the dangers of door hinges, MK1A delivers results every time. It’s also accessible in a wide range of colours, including black, brown, caramel, cream, light grey, dark grey, navy blue, red, white and yellow.
Like all of our door finger protectors, Fingersafe MK1A is designed with everyone’s safety in mind, reducing liability for employers and building owners, and preventing the unexpected tragedy that can result in long term damage for the individual and the organisation or establishment.
By sealing and covering the hinge gap completely, our MK1A protection guard is the door safety system everyone needs and it has received rave reviews from countless happy customers based all over the globe.
Rear hinge pins
Our MK1B guard is made to prevent finger trapping incidents at the rear, hinge-pin or pull side of the door. This is where the hinge barrels are seen and can present an increased risk of injury.
As with our wider range, our MK1B design covers the full length of the door, but this time fixes from the frame to its outer edge for complete protection. As a result, it is perfect for parliament hinges. Here HingeOutlet explains how you can identify this particular hinge type:
“These types of hinges fold back on themselves at a 180 degree angle. These hinges are used on a pair of doors between the lounge and dining room or on a pair of external doors into the garden in a modern home or apartment. The hinges resemble a butterfly when folded out.”
The MK1B Fingersafe guard can be adapted for use in larger door openings. This product is popular for commercial applications, with its fully compliant design, 4-hour fire door rating, high quality PVC construction, and high impact resistance proving useful for extended use.
The MK1B guard is also sold as part of a door finger protection pack alongside the MK1A design to offer a complete safety solution for both sides of a conventional, standard door frame.
Bi-folds and flush fits
We cater to flush fitted and bi-fold doors too, with our custom made MK1C guard using a concertina feature to the front to ensure the ultimate anti-trapping solution for these popular door types.
Adapted versions of this design are available, including protective guards for larger opening gaps, such as external uPVC doors with openings of between 90 and 135 degrees and hinge gaps of up to 8 inches or 20cm. Simple fitting and a two-year warranty also come as standard.
Sliding doors
While Fingersafe guards can be installed across 99% of today’s door designs, unfortunately, we do not provide solutions for sliding doors. All the designs detailed above however are accessible with our door finger guard fitting service to ensure a safety system you can rely on for the long haul.
