14 May The evolution of finger protection products
Every ground-breaking product started as a seed of an idea, and it’s the same story for our hinge protectors. We’ve been safeguarding little and big hands since 1992 with our door finger protection, preventing the finger and hand injuries that can stop life in its tracks and make everyday tasks difficult for those affected.
From schools, nurseries and workplaces to industrial buildings and other public and private sector premises, we’ve helped to kit them all out with finger guards that put safety first. In this blog post, we shine the spotlight on the Fingersafe story so far, how our hinge protectors first began, and what you can expect from the wide range of hinge protectors we stock today…
The brainchild of a British inventor
The concept of our door finger protectors came from British inventor, innovator and CEO Gina Fasey’s dad, Chris Yeomans. He founded the company back in 1992 with one mission – to make finger trapping injuries things of the past. Unbelievably, until this point, there were no other products available on the market to prevent the type of awful and sometimes life changing accidents caused by the hinge side of a closing door.
The invention of Fingersafe by founder Chris was truly pioneering, and it didn’t take long for the genius of this product to reach every part of the planet, with our door finger protectors finding particular success in the US and Canadian markets.
The door finger guard specialists
With nothing in place before Fingersafe, our hinge protectors quickly became a must-have across homes, schools, commercial premises and industrial buildings around the world. The Fingersafe range continued to develop with new innovations and adaptations to make them suitable for a growing number of door types.
Today, Fingersafe products are compatible with 99% of doors, apart from sliding doors. This includes bi-fold and flush fit doors, while our Pivotsafe design provides premium protection for pivot and swing doors. You can find out more about this particular Fingersafe product here.
Despite the ever-expanding selection of products, the unique concertina design that sits at the heart of all Fingersafe door guards remains the same now as it did right at the very beginning.
The importance of door finger protection
Whatever the nature of your organisation or the size of your premises, fitting finger door guards should be a priority.
Door guards prevent injuries, with people of all ages protected from the stress, pain and lifelong limitations that finger and hand injuries cause. The installation of finger guards also saves money as health and safety specialists LRB Consulting details:
“A nursery was prosecuted in December 2011 and ordered to pay fines and costs. The cost for the nursery was £75,000, this was in connection with an accident in which a young child lost the tip of his finger; the cost to the child is lifelong and may pose difficulties in later life. How did it all happen? The nursery had failed to fit door guards to all of its doors.”
Although not mandatory, the advantages of fitting finger guards are for all to see. Make sure you are embracing the perks of enhanced safety in your home or business property by exploring our product range today.
